Ted Williams – Former Addict with Golden Voice

Ted Williams – Homeless Guy – Previous Drug Addict – Golden Voice

Ted Williams, a Brooklyn native, is a 71 year old homeless man from Columbus, Ohio that was used to panhandling on the street for nearly a year trying to make money from showing people his voice. He was in high hopes that maybe a television or radio show worker would ride by, listen to him, and offer him a job doing a voice over or some air time so Ted could earn some money.

At the age of 14, Ted Williams visited a radio show for a field trip and got to meet one of the announcers. Ted told the man that he looked nothing like he sounded and the gentleman told him that radio announcing isn’t about looks, it is defined as ‘theater of mind’. Ever since then, Ted became interested in TV and radio announcing and even went to school to put the extra edge on his voice.

Jobless and homeless because of drug and alcohol addiction.

Williams was actually trained in radio but a bit of hard luck and involvement with drug and alcohol addiction left him as jobless and homeless. Although he had his ‘golden voice’, his appearance, jobless stature and lack of having a roof over his head made it hard for him to go out and get his dream job.

Given a  2nd chance to overcome drug and alcohol addiction and pursue his dream.

Luckily, a reporter was riding by, saw Ted Williams panhandling and a sign claiming that he has a ‘golden voice’, stopped and decided to listen to Mr. Williams’ claim. The reporter and over 4 million viewers have been astounded.

The New York Post also had a follow up video to this story, and Ted Williams even appeared on the CBS Early Show. After this viral video made it to YouTube, offers from all around came flying at Mr. Williams for him to use his voice. A listener to the CBS Early Show called in and offered Ted a job announcing for the Cleveland Cavaliers and even offered him a free home in Cleveland. CBS also has a nice story on Ted Williams with an interview video.
